Maths Brigitte Koh

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Second Upper Honours) from the National University of Singapore, majoring in Applied Mathematics. As part of the University Scholars Programme, I was also able to design and pursue independent study modules under the supervision of excellent professors — including a multi-disciplinary research project where I collaborated with students and a professor from different faculties.

My previous teaching experience was in Year 5 and 6 at a school offering the Integrated Programme. There, I taught classes across H1, H2 and H3 Mathematics, and this allowed me to plan and design differentiated lessons for various groups of students. My proudest contributions there were outside the classroom, where I mentored my students and worked with different groups of teachers to improve students’ well-being.

I believe that education serves as a lens for us to view and understand the world around us, and this lens requires constant sharpening and clarifying as our environment becomes more complex. Personally, I live by the quote, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Perhaps that partly explains why I am such a movie buff, fully capable of sitting through 15-hour movie marathons!

As a part of Singapore’s newest pre-university institution, I am excited by the opportunity to shape a new learning culture and design fresh experiences for our students. In my work with student leaders and talented youth, I look forward to building a strong student culture, one that will translate well into various student-led initiatives and a very promising and rewarding experience for the pioneering students and staff.

Brigitte joined the college as a pioneering Head of Department in 2015.
