Mr Soh Chin Ann
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) in 2002 from the National University of Singapore, majoring in Mathematics and Computational Science. I was awarded both the Ven. Dr. D. D. Chelliah Gold Medal and the Leong Teng Kiang Memorial Prize in Mathematics for being the top honours student in Mathematics. I went on to attain a Master of Science (Distinction) in Mathematics and the Foundations of Computer Science in 2003 from the University of Oxford. In 2015, I pursued a Master of Education at the University of Melbourne on a Ministry of Education (MOE) Postgraduate Scholarship.
I started my career teaching Mathematics at a junior college. During this time, I oversaw the design and teaching of the H3 Mathematics curriculum there, enjoying in particular the chance to expose students to higher-level Mathematics and to develop their interest and potential. From 2008 to 2010, I undertook the role of Manager at the Manpower Planning Unit in MOE HQ Personnel Division. This provided me with rich opportunities to be involved in policy work, particularly with regard to manpower resourcing in schools. From 2011 to 2014, I had the opportunity to serve as the first School Staff Developer of a secondary school, where I put in place structures for the development and engagement of staff.
I strongly believe that education should be more than acquiring knowledge. It should also enable, empower and embolden students to develop and pursue their interests, and to make meaningful contributions to the community and beyond. The school is an important community which can provide the exposure and guidance to grow our students into youths with purpose, thinkers with heart and leaders with courage. As the HOD (ICT & IME) of Eunoia Junior College, I am honoured to have the opportunity to enable, empower and embolden staff in their teaching and students in their learning.
Chin Ann joined the college as a pioneering Head of Department in 2016.
