Ms Siti Farisa

I read Geography at the National University of Singapore and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Second Upper Honours). While I was in university, I challenged myself to pick up a new language and learned Japanese. I was selected to be part of a homestay programme to Hiroshima, where I had the opportunity to live with a Japanese family and hear their perspectives on society, culture and life. I also spent my time welcoming international students to the university and served as English conversation partners to several of them on exchange here. These experiences were truly the highlight of my undergraduate studies, and have enriched my own understanding and appreciation of Geography as a discipline.

Prior to joining Eunoia Junior College, I taught at both the secondary and junior college levels and took on various coordinator roles in the areas of Geography and Student Development. As a beginning teacher in a secondary school, I led a new and growing Uniformed Group unit, even participating in a Precision Drill competition with them! In the previous colleges I was teaching in, I had the opportunity to work with students in various leadership groups, guiding them through assignments relating to the school and wider community, and mentoring them in their overall development. I was also given the opportunity to head the Student Leadership committee, where I oversaw the Student Leadership Development programme in the colleges I was in. In this role, I had the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by my colleagues and students, and I reflect on this experience with great fondness. Throughout my career, I am grateful to have been recognised with the Outstanding Contribution Awards and school-based Caring Teacher Awards.

As a Geography educator, it is my wish for students to graduate with not just the ability to take on a Geographical lens when reflecting on various issues, but to also have great empathy and show kindness towards people and the environment. I am excited to be part of the Eunoia family, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and students to foster beautiful thinking and goodwill to all.
